“Johnny Morehouse,” 2020 ($50)
Dayton Urban Sketchers met up at Dayton’s Woodland Cemetery and Arboretum for a morning of drawing. This is the headstone of five-year-old Johnny Morehouse who passed away in 1860 after he fell into a trench and drowned. His dog jumped in to pull him out, but it was too late. The story goes that his dog refused to leave his graveside, so a new headstone was built to honor Johnny and his loyal dog. The grave gets many visitors, a handful stopped by while I was drawing. Some leave coins and toys for Johnny.
